The Fish Hawk
A distinctive, talented fisherman, rarely challenged by others of its
species
Picture this magnificent, soaring hawk on wings as wide as 24 inches,
circling as high as 200 feet in the air
It sights its prey, hovers, then plummets with wings half closed and feet
extended. It enters the water with a huge splash - sometimes completely
submerging itself - then arises seconds later with its catch held securely in
powerful toes and talons expertly conceived for their purpose.
Like any serious fisherman, the Fish Hawk or Osprey is never far from water.
One of the most widely distributed of all birds, it is found along all
continental coasts, on virtually ever island, and near most major inland water
areas throughout the world. It is a stranger only to the polar land masses and
New Zealand - the latter for reasons not quite clear even to scientists!
Fortunately for its human counterparts, the Fish Hawk eats mainly fish of
little economic or sports value and, although widely distributed, nowhere are
these birds numerous enough to threaten fish populations. Other predatory
birds, even the mighty Bald Eagle, are merely annoyances to the Fish Hawk,
because any fish lost to such larger species is quickly replaced by this
talented, airborne fisherman. Presented by Fish Hawk Electronics Corporation,
maker of the unique Fish Hawk brand of sport fishing instruments to monitor
Temperature, Light/Lure Color, Trolling Speed and Lure Speed to depths of 200
feet (60 meters). |
